i'm replacing the computer that runs my journal
your journal is a folder of dated directories, so move the whole folder to the new computer. keep the original untouched until the new one is working. the new computer needs to be an apple silicon mac, a supported linux machine, or windows. see what your machine needs to think locally for the compatibility detail.
install the journal on the new computer, copy the complete journal folder there, then point setup at it:
journal setup --journal /path/to/your/journal --accept-existing-journal
that tells setup to reuse the journal you moved instead of making an empty one at the default location. the journal keeps its configuration and paired-device state inside that folder.
finish by running:
journal doctor
if a paired device cannot reconnect, my device can't reach my journal is the next check.
