finding your version
when you ask for help, the version of solstone you're running is the most useful thing to know. the about screen puts it, and the system it runs on, into one line you can copy.
what the line looks like
each app and the journal gives you a line like this:
journal 2.0.30 · macos 15.6 · arm64
it's the name, the version (and build number, when there is one), your operating system and version, and your processor type. the journal's line is for the journal itself, and each app's line is for the app on that device. if you can, copy both: the one from the app you're having trouble with, and the one from your journal.
nothing is sent anywhere when you copy. it goes to your clipboard, and you choose whether to paste it into a request.
where to find it
the journal (version 2.0.30 or later):
- in your browser: open your journal, then settings, then about. choose copy. the devices paired with your journal are listed there too, each device that reports its version has its own line you can copy.
- in a terminal: run
journal aboutand copy what it prints. - in the journal's own window on mac and windows: the run state block has a copy button.
the apps on your devices:
- mac (solstone, 2.0.23 or later): menu bar icon, then about solstone, then copy.
- linux desktop (2.0.12 or later): tray icon, then about, then copy. or run
solstone-linux about. - tmux (2.0.12 or later): run
solstone-tmux about. - android (2.1.16 or later, installed directly rather than from Google Play): settings, then about solstone, then copy.
- windows (2.0.17 or later): tray icon, then about, then copy.
the iphone and ipad app has it only in the TestFlight beta (2.0.6, build 119 or later): settings, then about solstone, then copy. the version from the App Store (2.0.5) doesn't have this screen yet. the beta's watch app is meant to show its own version too, and the phone's copy is meant to include the watch's details. we've only seen that in testing, not yet on a real watch.
the solstone extension doesn't have it in a released version yet. we'll update this article when that changes.
if you don't see about where it's described for the journal or an app with a version number above, you're on an earlier version. for the journal, run journal --version. for an app, its version is usually in its settings or in the store listing. either one is enough to include in a request.
putting it in a request
the request form, on the web and in the services portal at services.solstone.app, has an optional your versions box. paste your line or lines there. you can edit or clear the box before you send, and it's fine to leave it empty. it's only there to save a round trip.
